Icon Art

Ben’s
Icon Art

Icon Art has very strict,
formal rules. Artists used to pray and
fast before painting Icon Art. Good
Icon Art would cause a spiritual experience for the viewer back in its day (900
A.D. – 1400 A.D.) The figures were
supposed to look otherworldly, be flat & two-dimensional; eyes are dark
& shaded; noses long and slender.
Brows are arched; faces are heart-shaped with tiny, well-shaped mouths
and long slender hands & fingers.
They used a lot of gold leaf and jewel-encrusted frames. Icon Art was found in Eastern churches in
place of statues.
